Meet the Animals Monday!Meet Hope and Willow our Ferrets.Hope and Willow are both cheeky youngsters that are very friendly. Falconry Centre Fridays!Meet the birds...Wookey - Tawny OwlWookie is a beautiful little Tawny Owl and the youngest bird at the centre at the moment at just over 18 months old! Wookie was hand reared by Julie (one of our Falconers) and he thinks that she is his mum. ❓Did you know ❓Tawny Owls are the most numerous of our native Owls and are also the most nocturnal. Because of this they are rarely seen but often heard as it is the Tawny owl that makes the iconic ‘twit twoo’ sound. In fact if you hear the full’ twit twoo’ you are hearing two tawny owls calling to each other! Falconry Centre Fridays!Meet the birds...Mischa - Siberian x Turkmenian Eagle OwlMischa will be 12 years old this year and was bred here at Woodlands! His parents Katrina and Rasputin can still be seen in the collection. Mischa was hand reared from around 10 days old meaning that he is super friendly and because of this is another member of the flying team for our displays. He is a very striking bird with his beautiful pale plumage and huge 5.5ft wingspan.❓Did you know ❓These birds are very powerful and in the wild have been recording taking prey up to the size of Roe Deer and Foxes.All Ealge owls are what we call Eared Owls or Tufted owls as they have the ‘Ear Tufts’ on the top of their head. These tufts have nothing at all to do with their ears or hearing but in fact help them to camouflage and can be used to communicate.✨We would love to display your drawings & pictures in the Falconry Centre!
